Geographical Indication
A geographical indication is a sign to specify a product belonging to a specific geographical place and having certain qualities of its place of origin or a reputation that is due to that origin.
Geographical indication is used to identify agricultural, natural and manufactured goods. Some of the examples being Nagpur Orange, Kolhapuri Chappals and Darjeeling Tea.
A geographical indication right confers legal protection of the use of such right and pre-vents its unauthorized use by a third party whose product does not conform to the applicable standards.
